The Bordentown Junior Musical Theatre Company is set to present Annie Jr. in July.
The musical features more than 70 performers between the ages of eight and 14, split between two casts who will alternate performances. The cast includes Bordentown, Fieldsboro, Trenton, Yardville, Cookstown, Chesterfield and New Egypt residents.
The popular comic strip heroine Little Orphan Annie takes center stage in Annie Jr., an adaptation of the musical with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and book by Thomas Meehan.
With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts, despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find her parents, who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan.
Her adventures at the mansion of the wealthy Mr. Warbucks are filled with memorable songs from the Tony Award-winning production, including “Hard Knock Life” and “Tomorrow.”
Performances of Annie Jr. are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 17 to 19; and 2 p.m. July 19 at the Bordentown Performing Arts Center, 318 Ward Ave., Bordentown.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for seniors and children. Tickets can be purchased at the Bordentown CDA office, 48 Dunns Mill Road, Bordentown; as well as at the door one hour before curtain.
This is the seventh year of the Bordentown Junior Theatre Company summer program, which has given hundreds of young actors the opportunity to perform musicals such as Once On This Island Jr., Beauty and the Beast Jr., Mulan Jr.,Aladdin Jr., Honk Jr. and last summer’s production of The Little Mermaid Jr.
