Sidewalk sale set to provide more than discounts
The DBA added circus-themed games, music and other entertainment to last year’s sale. The community was so receptive, the organization decided to keep the circus theme for this year’s sale, which is set for Aug. 14 and 15 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
“It’s mid-summer,” said Rebecca Moslowski, who owns Rebecca’s Vintage Boutique and Consignments. “People are kind of getting tired of it being quiet. It’s a good way to clear out summer inventories with sales. Everybody looks forward to it.”
The organization decided to add additional entertainment after seeing games and music at similar sales in other towns. Now, the event features parrots and other animals, stilt walkers, magic shows, face painters and a carnival wheel that rewards spinners with items like gift cards, discounts and other prizes. Anybody who spends $20 during the day is eligible to spin.
The balloon-lined street also hosts musicians, games and food like complimentary popcorn.
Moslowski said the assocation wanted to add a historical aspect to this year’s sale, so it plans on handing out books that lay out a self-guided tour of Bordentown. She also hopes to bring other animals, like a pony, into the mix.
And don’t forget the deals. Most businesses on Farnsworth participate, offering discounts, promotions and bottom-dollar clearance sales. Of course, samples and merchandise are laid out in front of the stores to give shoppers a taste of each shop’s offerings.
“I look forward to all the activity the most,” Moslowski said. “The sidewalk is full. It really becomes a hustle and bustle street. It’s not a city street during the sidewalk sale. It becomes more of a party, a really fun time.”
