BRHS to present Radium Girls
The award-winning Bordentown Regional High School theater students are sent to present the drama Radium Girls by D.W. Gregory on Nov. 12, 13, and 14, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bordentown Performing Arts Center.
Radium Girls is inspired by the real life trial of Grace Fryer and the Radium Girls against the U.S. Radium Corporation. In the 1920s, the miracle element of radium was used in everything from glow-in-the-dark watches for soldiers to bottled water marketed to cure a myriad of ailments. In a New Jersey watch factory, workers began to fall mysteriously ill. Company cover-ups, a world-famous court trial, and the heartbreak of those known as the Radium Girls would change US labor laws forever.
Featured in the cast are seniors Mary Liz White as Grace Fryer and Liam McCormack as Charles Lee, juniors Nathan Scranton as Arthur Roeder and Charles Cherris as Edward Markley, sophomores Hannah Vilet as Kathryn Schaub and Varun Andrews as Tom Kreider and freshman Alicia Method as Katherine Wiley. The cast also includes Daria Briggs, Olivia Landers, Catherine Mercantini, Brianna Moran, Annissa Richard, Tim Slaight and Morgan West.
In 2012, Bordentown Regional High School’s musical, Legally Blonde, was awarded the Greater Philadelphia Cappie Award for Outstanding Musical. Over the past five years, the Greater Philadelphia Cappie Awards have honored BRHS Theater performances with thirty nominations and eleven awards. The theatrical performances of BRHS have also been honored with awards and nominations from the New Jersey State Thespian Festival and the New Jersey Theatre Night Awards. Bordentown Regional High School is home to International Thespian Society Troupe 6803.
The Bordentown Performing Arts Center is attached to Bordentown Regional High School, and is located at 318 Ward Ave. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students.
