Plenty of holiday events on the docket for December

Be it music, dance, art, or adventure, there are a wealth of holiday happenings for almost everyone this month. Below is a sampling of some of the events going on in the region throughout December.


Dec. 4: Celtic Woman: Home for Christmas, State Theater, 15 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, 732-246-7469. The Symphony tour. $45 to $115. 8 p.m. 

Dec. 5: Chamber Music, Classical Music for All, Nassau Presbyterian Church, 61 Nassau Street, Princeton, 609-356-4555. Holiday themed concert. An informal event focuses on presenting classical music to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 2 p.m. 

Dec. 6: Winter Songs IX, Capital Singers of Trenton, Sacred Heart Church, 343 South Broad Street, Trenton. “A Family Christmas: Holiday to Broadway.” Richard M. Loatman conducts. 5 p.m. 

Dec. 10: Holiday Concert, Lawrence Senior Center, 30 Darrah Lane East, Lawrence, 609-844-7048. Performance by the Lawrence Township Community Concert Band. Free. 7 p.m. 

Dec. 11: NJ Chamber Singers, Grounds For Sculpture, 126 Sculptors Way, Hamilton, 609-584-7800. “Ding, Dong, Merrily on High” features choir and hand bells. $20. 7 p.m. 

Dec. 12: Holiday Music, Bordentown Library, 18 East Union Street, Bordentown, 609-298-0622. Holiday program by classical guitarist Robert Dopira. 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Dec. 13: Christmas In His Presence, First Baptist Church of Bordentown, Prince and Church streets, Bordentown, 609-477-0659. Features music by a combined choir from Chesterfield, Hedding, Columbus, and Bordentown. Free will offering and refreshments. 6 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Dec. 16: Westminster Community Orchestra, Westminster Choir College, Playhouse, Princeton, 609-921-2663. Holiday Sing along includes Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus. Free will offering of non-perishable food or monetary donations invited. 7:30 p.m. 

Dec. 18: New Jersey Symphony Chamber Orchestra, McCarter Theater, 91 University Place, Princeton, 609-258-2787. Handel’s “Messiah” conducted by Jacques Lacombe. 7:30 p.m. 

Dec. 19: Stille Nacht, Princeton Theological Seminary, 64 Mercer Street, Princeton, 609-924-4646. Christmas music from Germany and Austria by Voices Chorale. Also Dec. 20. $25. 3 p.m. 

Dec. 20: Ernie White Band & Friends Christmas Benefit Concert, The Grand Ballroom at Princeton Manor (formerly Cedar Gardens), 611 Route 33, Mercerville, 609-587-1511. $25. Children must be accompanied by an adult. 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

On Stage

Dec. 2: ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, Kelsey Theater, Mercer County Community College, 1200 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor, 609-570-3333. Clement Moore’s poem is brought to life by the Kelsey Players. $12. Through Dec. 7. 7 p.m. 

Dec. 4: A Christmas Carol, McCarter Theater, 91 University Place, Princeton, 609-258-2787. The Dickens classic.  Through December 27. $25 and up. 

Dec. 5: The Nutcracker, Roxey Ballet, College of New Jersey, Kendall Hall, Ewing, 609-397-7616. Holiday tradition directed by Mark Roxey. Also Dec. 6 and 7. $15 to $50. 1 p.m.

Dec. 7: Annual Holiday Concert, Crossroads Theater, 7 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, 732-545-8100. “Tidings of Comfort & Joy,” hosted by SiriusXM Radio Host Julie James. Features performers Kathy Deitch, Kevin R. Free, Kathy Brier, and Marty Thomas. $30. 7:30 p.m.  

Dec. 12: The Snow Queen, Princeton Youth Ballet, Princeton High School Performing Arts Center, 151 Moore Street, Princeton, 800-838-3006. Based on the Hans Christian Andersen story Also Dec. 13. $20. 4 p.m. 

Dec. 15: It’s a Wonderful Life, Raritan Valley Community College, Route 28, North Branch, 908-725-3420. $10 and $25. 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Dec. 18: The Nutcracker, Villa Victoria Theater, 376 West Upper Ferry Road, Ewing, 609-424-3192. Presented byt he Central New Jersey Ballet Theater. $15-$20. 7 p.m. 

Dec. 21: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, State Theater, 15 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, 732-246-7469. Musical based on the classic film. $35 to $75. 3 p.m.

Crafts,  boutiques, tours and open houses 

Dec. 2: Holiday Open House, Drumthwacket Foundation, 354 Stockton Street, Princeton, 609-683-0057. “The Holidays at Drumthwacket,” self-guided tour. Free. Register. Also Dec. 6, 9, 13 and 16. Wednesday, December 16 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Dec. 4: Open House And Greens Sale, William Trent House, 15 Market Street, Trenton, 609-989-0087. Trent House tours. Christmas trees, wreaths, and fresh greens for sale. Also Dec. 5. 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Dec. 5: Annual Holiday House Tour, Mill Hill Society, Mill Hill District in Trenton. Annual tours of one of Trenton’s oldest neighborhoods. $15 to $20. Tour starts at Artworks, 19 Everett Alley, Trenton. E-mail for information. Noon. to 5 p.m.

Dec. 7: Gingerbread House Making Party, Bordentown Library, 18 East Union Street, Bordentown, 609-298-0622. For children ages 5 to 12. Bring your own icing. 4 p.m. 

Dec. 11: Gingerbread House Decorating, RWJ Fitness & Wellness Center, 3100 Quakerbridge Road, Hamilton, 609-584-5900. Bring your 4 to 10 year old to create sweet memories while listening to holiday songs, enjoying a story, and sipping hot cocoa. Register. $10 per child; adults free. 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Dec. 12: Christmas in Hamilton, Colonial Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, Colonial Ballroom, 801 Kuser Road, Hamilton, 609-587-3452. Annual craft show. Free Admission. Kitchen open all day. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Dec. 29: Holiday Break Craftapalooza, Bordentown Library, 18 East Union Street, Bordentown, 609-298-0622. Kids, teens, and families are invited to help clean out the craft closet. Craft projects and supplies available. 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Seasonal events

Dec. 2: Christmas Party Fundraiser, Habitat for Humanity, Amici Milano, 600 Chestnut Avenue, Trenton, 609-393-8009. Buffet, live music, raffle, and cash bar. $30. 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Dec. 4: Christmas Live, GraceWay Bible Church, 1934 Klockner Road, Hamilton. Guided walk through interactive scenes featuring actors and live animals. Crafts, snacks, photos, and a trolley. Register online. Also Dec. 6, 11, and 13. 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Dec. 5: Hello Holidays, Grounds For Sculpture, 126 Sculptors Way, Hamilton, 609-584-7800. “A Christmas Carol” presented by Raconteur Radio features period costumes, Victorian carols, golden age radio equipment, vintage commercials, and more. Free with park admission. 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Dec. 7: Tree Lighting Ceremony, Municipal Building, 1 Municipal Drive, Bordentown, (609) 298-2800 ext. 2109. Featuring performances by Abigayle Harnum, Kyle Bethea, Mia Procaccino and Gabrielle Takacs, as well as art contest award winners and photos with Santa. 6 p.m. 

Dec. 8: Menorah Lighting, Palmer Square, North Hulfish Plaza, Princeton, 609-424-0660. Reception follows at Nassau Inn. Music by Odessa Klezmer Band. Rain or shine. Free. 4:50 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Dec. 10: Family Holiday Storytelling Program, Bordentown Library, 18 East Union Street, Bordentown, 609-298-0622. Professional storyteller Denise McCormack tells traditional holiday stories. Hot cocoa and gingerbread cookies served. 7 p.m. 

Dec. 13: Chanukah on Ice, The Jewish Center, Ice Land Skating Center, 6 Tennis Court, Hamilton, 609-921-0100. Learn to skate lessons at 5:45 and 6:15 p.m.; pizza dinner at 6 p.m.; ice menorah lighting at 6:30 p.m. Register. $8 to $10 includes skate rental. 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Dec. 19: Victorian Holiday Reading, Bordentown Library, 18 East Union Street, Bordentown, 609-298-0622. Excerpts from A Christmas Carol and harp music by Michele Mountain. Holiday beverages and snacks served. 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Dec. 20: Living Nativity, Bordentown Elks, 11 Amboy Road, Bordentown, 609-298-5939. Interactive event in conjunction with area churches. 5 p.m. 

Dec. 24: Santa’s Arrival, Princeton Airport, Route 206, 609-921-3100. Bring a wrapped gift with child’s name in large text and Santa will distribute it when he arrives. Participants are also asked to bring an unwrapped gift of clothing, books, or toys to be distributed through Mercer County Board of Social Services. 11 a.m. 

Dec. 25: Crossing Re-Enactment, Friends of Washington Crossing State Park, Washington Crossing Historic Park, Route 32, Washington Crossing, PA, 215-493-4076. Historical reenactment of George Washington’s daring 1776 river crossing. Reenactors in Continental military dress listen to an inspiring speech by Washington and then row across the Delaware River in three replica Durham boats. 1 p.m. 

Dec. 27: Battles of Trenton Reenactment, Old Barracks Museum, 101 Barrack Street, Trenton, 609-396-1776. First battle takes place at the Trenton Battle Monument. The second battle begins at 3 p.m. in Mill Hill Park. Battles are free. Entrance to the museum grounds is $5. 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Dec. 31: Read in the New Year, Bordentown Library, 18 East Union Street, Bordentown, 609-298-0622. Children and families invited for stories, songs, and a special countdown to 2016 at 12 noon. 11 a.m.
