‘Shrek the Musical, Jr.’ to hit Performing Arts stage July 14-15

More than 50 performers between the ages of 8 and 14 will present the musical. The young actors come from Bordentown, Fieldsboro, Trenton, Yardville, Cookstown, Chesterfield and New Egypt.
Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek Jr., based on the Oscar-winning animated film and Broadway musical. It’s a “big bright beautiful world” as Shrek leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twister fairytale, Shrek Jr. is billed as an irreverently fun show with a powerful message from the whole family. The musical features music by Tony Award-winner Jeanine Tesori, book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winner David Linsay-Abaire and is based on the book by William Steig.
Shrek Jr. is from Music Theatre International’s Broadway Junior Collection, which includes musicals that have been adapted for young performers. The is the Bordentown Junior Theatre Company summer program’s 10th season. Past performances include Mulan Jr., Honk Jr., Annie Jr., Elf Jr. and more.
The Friday performance will start at 7:30 p.m., and the Saturday performance begins at 2 p.m.The Bordentown Performing Arts Center is located at 318 Ward Ave. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for seniors and children and can be purchased at the Bordentown CDA office located at 48 Dunns Mill Rd. or at the door one hour before curtain.
