FREE movie screening: Forbidden Planet

7:00 p.m

Dorothea Dix Unitarian Universalist Community, 39 Park St., Bordentown, NJ

Movies for Grown-ups and their children will screen the 1956 film Forbidden Planet, starring Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis, and Leslie Nielson (Yes, that Leslie Nielson). Discussion will follow.

Based loosely on Shakespeare’s The Tempest, Forbidden Planet set the bar for all sci-fi movies in the last half of the 20th century, and the parallels in George Lucas’s “Star Wars” are unmistakable. Fifty-eight years after its debut, the special effects still dazzle. The script invokes interstellar terror, but never dissolves into sci-fi camp. This thoughtful and intelligent story about human frailty is still relevant. The movie is rated G. 609-298-1299.
